This is pretty much the quickest song I have written and recorded in years. It’s nothing extra complex, just three 8 bar verses and a catchy little hook. I made the beat and wrote the song in one day and booked a studio session for the very next day with my buddy Austin Switalski at Elastik Labs in Cedar Rapids. It was kind of inspired by some of my friends. I would invite them to come with me to shows I was doing out of state and they would make up some excuse not to go. Then when I got back from my travels they would always say “I should have just went with you” because Cedar Rapids is pretty boring. The sample for this track is from a Partridge Family song called “Doesn’t Somebody Want to be Wanted” that I heard my Mom playing all the time when I was a kid. I stumbled onto it on a record I snagged at the Goodwill called “20 Power Hits Volume 2.” I don’t usually sample well known songs but since this one had a lasting impression on me since I was a kid; I decided I could make an exception. Plus, I knew my Mom would like it and I end dedicated the song to her in the beginning. The drums are from the sound library that came with Logic Pro 9. I sampled them into the MPC2000XL and kept the drum pattern simple. When I recorded the song I did a bit of what some might consider singing. This turned out to be a pretty cool song that a lot of people enjoy. I think that all the people around here in the Midwest can really relate to the storyline. I originally released it as a single on my Bandcamp, Reverbnation and Soundcloud pages page in February of 2012 and since then it has acquired almost 1,000 plays with very little promotion. I don’t perform this song as much as some people would prefer. I am primarily a rapper, and my rapper voice dominates on stage. It’s kind of hard for me to go from my rapper voice to my singing voice and back again. Usually by the end of the song I get it right, but by then it’s too late. I also have this issue when performing “Anti Couch Potato.” This is another thing I’m working on….
