I’m quite a big fan of drum breaks and break beats, though I don’t find many on records. I make my own break beats with whatever drum sounds I can fit together more often than I find one to chop up. And I almost NEVER sample and loop drum patterns. That just seems lazy to me. Most of the drum sounds on this beat came from Logic Pro 9, as well as the little bass lick. The only sounds that weren’t from Logic are the vocal samples and the drum fill which came from some random vinyl records. I really enjoy this beat; it always makes me start uprocking and gets me in the mood to breakdance. It was made before I started doing the live MPC business, but I have recently added it to the live show. It’s one of the only beats that I play as a simple loop. But I don’t just stand there and stare at the wall while it plays. I have the ability to manipulate it in real-time and the vocal samples aren’t part of the loop so I play them live too. Also, if there is a dope DJ in the house, I will invite him/her onto the stage to add to the show. Upon creating and saving this track I named it “That Funk” but I decided change it to “That’s Funky” for this project because I named another track on this album “Finger Funk” and I thought the titles were too similar. I made this beat early in 2012 and if I hadn’t added it beat to my live show, it wouldn’t be on this project and would probably still just be taking up space on a zip disk. I hoard beats, that’s funky….
