The first time I heard this beat, I knew it was the one. Sometime in 2012 my friend and label mate Opt Rhyme shared a DropBox folder with me containing 20+ beats by GoodWill from Madison Wisconsin. This one really stood out to me, but it was only about a minute and a half long. I asked Opt if he was using it and he said no. Then I emailed GoodWill to see if it was still available and get a longer version; he said “that one’s long gone”, and I was a bit heartbroken. About a year later I talked to Opt and he had found or acquired the full version of the beat and said he had bought it and that Colorless and I could use it. Around that same time we added a new member by the name of Fooch the Emcee to the crew. Colorless and I were working on group project and wanted to feature Fooch on that track for the project. We sent Fooch the beat and he got back to us pretty quick with a nice 16 that set the tone for the track. The first two bars of my verse were actually written in 2006-ish, but that verse was never finished. Somehow they resurfaced and spawned my inspiration during writing this and I’m quite pleased with the results. As previously stated, Colorless was supposed to be on this song, but the verse he wrote didn’t fit well with mine or Fooch’s so we removed it from the track. I knew this song still needed a third verse to finish it though; so I hollered at Opt Rhyme. He originally didn’t have any motivation to write on this beat, but with our concept already established, he was able to come up with a dope verse to finish the track. This song was inspired by the modern age of music in which musicians are monetarily paying their way into the industry instead of paying their dues and gaining respect based off of their actual talents and skills….
