This song is a testament to our resilience in a city/state that overlooks Hip Hop. We’ve been making something out of nothing since 2002. I got this beat sometime in 2012 via email from a producer called GoodWill in Madison Wisconsin. I’ve had the chance to rap on his beats in the past, but this was the first one he sent directly to me for my specific use. I was pretty excited to download it because his beats are all bangers and, naturally, this one was no exception. I wrote the hook and Colorless and I recorded it early in 2013. We both had a verse written for the track and I wrote another one in March of 2013. The beginning of my first verse was borrowed from Pras’s first verse on “Ghetto Superstar – featuring Mya and ODB”, I always loved that song. I really liked Colorless’ verse, but when it came time to record we found out that he lost the paper he had written the verse on, and he couldn’t remember the whole verse without it so we never recorded it. Sometime in November of 2013 while cleaning the studio, I found a folded up piece of paper with some writing on both sides. It was Colorless’ missing verse! It was like it was meant to be because Colorless had just gotten back to CR from Cali at that time and I was planning on this song being on the project anyway, and if he didn’t get it done, I was going to replace his dirty beard with a verse from Case’s dirty beard! I got Colorless in the studio and after a few attempts over a couple different sessions we captured a good take. In the end, everything came together and the overall message of this song guided us to its completion. “We never lost sight, hope you got the message, Yo/ never lose sight, focus on the message, GO!”….
